Human Research Ethics Committee Members – Pastoral Care

Volunteer roleExpressions of interest are sought for membership to the Family Planning NSW Human Research Ethics Committee. We are currently seeking people who hold a pastoral care role in the community.  Family Planning NSW is the state’s leading provider of reproductive and sexual health services, and has a strong history of achievement in research, evaluation, and research translation. The role of research committees is to promote ethical human research, to protect the welfare of research participants, and to foster research that benefits the community. Committee meetings are collegial, and their function is to bring together the various perspectives of members to consider the ethical implications of each research proposal.To be eligible, applicants should be currently engaged in roles involving the provision of care, support, and guidance to community members. Such roles include counsellors/psychologists, teachers, social/youth workers, Aboriginal elders, or ministers of religion. Applicants should have an interest in, and commitment to, human research and the ethical principles that underpin it.Previous Ethics Committee experience will be highly regarded, but not necessary as training will be provided.Members must be able to attend Tuesday evening meetings at Ashfield, New South Wales, normally at six weekly intervals on an ongoing basis.
